STORMWATER GARDEN
This Brooklyn backyard transformation turns a small backyard lot into a functional, serene garden with a focus on sustainability. The design uses gravel surfaces that naturally absorb stormwater, reducing runoff and replenishing the soil. Beneath the surface, dry wells capture excess rainwater during heavy storms. The use of native plants not only brings vibrant seasonal color but also invites pollinators, providing a localized environment for insects and animals. The garden is divided into two tiers, offering separate areas for each apartment, with the upper level featuring a continuous wooden bench—a gathering spot for dinners and get-togethers. Locally sourced bluestone enhances the natural aesthetic while creating cozy seating areas. The result is a low-maintenance, ecologically conscious garden that blends function, privacy, and beauty
