OUTDOOR SHOWER

This outdoor shower, perched on the Niagara Escarpment of Ontario, is made of local willow branches harvested from nearby roadside ditches. Willow is a remarkably flexible and abundant material that has been used to build shelters and fences for millennia. The technique used here originates in medieval England, where thicker upright branches provide the formwork for a horizontal weave of thin willow branches. The floor is composed of cut stepping stones set in redish smooth river rock, mimicking the natural rust color the willow branches turn over time.
