PARKSCRAPER: ADAPTIVE REUSE FOR VERTICAL LANDSCAPES

Parkscraper defines a new adaptive re-use typology for Manhattan’s underperforming office towers, reimagining them as vertical park spaces open to the public. The tower floorplates are selectively deconstructed to allow for the introduction of atrium spaces. Each floor contains a unique park element, integrating specific ecosystems such as dunescapes, bamboo forests, pine forests, tropical gardens and community agriculture. Public amenities such as tennis courts, pools, skate parks and rock climbing are built into the building’s program. Each floor is accessible by the building’s existing elevator, and through a series of interlacing ramps, that also double as running tracks.

Parkscraper hopes to open up new possibilities for how buildings in tight real-estate markets can be updated and re-integrated into the fabric of public life.
